“The Congress had taken away our means of livelihood by levying extra charges. Since Arvind Kejriwal and AAP had convinced us that they would work for us, we voted for them,” S.K. Bhatia, president, All India Auto Taxi Federation, told IANS.

“We had devised a policy where all the auto drivers were asked to vote for AAP,” Bhatia said.

The auto drivers had also helped AAP in March to ferry about 10 lakh letters against inflated power and water bills to the residence of Sheila Dikshit, Delhi’s chief minister who resigned Sunday as poll results came in.

Similarly the president of Rashtravadi Janta Tipahiya Chalak Mahan Sangh, Suresh Sharma, said: “As long as the party works for the welfare of the auto-rickshaw drivers, we would continue to support them, even though they are in opposition.”

There are about 75,000 auto drivers in the national capital.
