Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain dismissed the plea of filed by Rumal Singh for registering a case against social activist Anna Hazare, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief Arvind Kejriwal and others.

Rumal Singh alleged that NGO India Against Corruption (IAC) cheated people by generating money through introduction of the SMS cards.

The court ruled no action is warranted in the matter after Delhi Police filed an action taken report (ATR) on the plea for lodging first information report (FIR) against the erstwhile Team Anna for allegedly cheating people by selling the SMS cards during the anti-corruption movement.

The card, a coupon of Rs.25, was distributed during the movement on the pretext of giving news alert and information regarding the Anna movement for a period of one year. However, the service was abruptly discontinued.

Rumal said Team Anna defrauded more than four crore people.

Police told the court no offence is made out in this case and no police action is warranted in the matter.

Police said the complainant and other volunteers of the movement willingly purchased the said Anna cards. Nobody was induced by either the IAC or its team leaders.

The police submitted termination of cards is a civil matter and complainant was told to approach a consumer court for any type of justice.

“The complainant was told to provide the list of people who took the same card but he could not provide any list. No other customer appeared at the police station regarding this complaint,” the police reply said, and added the complainant was not cooperating in the inquiry.

Police said the IAC started selling these SMS cards from the last week of February 2012 during the World Book Fair at the Pragati Maidan here.
