South Indian superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi was scheduled to inaugurate the Goa Carnival Feb 9.

“Chiranjeevi’s office has informed us that he would be at the Allahabad Maha Kumbh Mela Feb 7-8 and may extend his stay by a day. We are not sure that he will attend the Goa Carnival,” state Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told IANS Wednesday.

The Maha Kumbh is a 55-day Hindu festival held at Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati river. It began Jan 15.

On the other hand, the Goa Carnival is a celebration of the state’s Portuguese legacy.
