Islamabad: A remote-controlled bomb blast Friday ripped through a market in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region, killing at least 12 people and injuring 25 others, Xinhua reported.
The bomb was planted on the roadside near a security check-post in the main bazaar of Kalaya in Lower Orakzai agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Earlier reports said the bombing took place in Hangu, but it actually occurred in the neighbouring restive region of Lower Orakzai.
The explosion destroyed many shops, killing five people on the spot and leaving more than 30 injured.
At least seven people died from their injuries after being taken to a hospital.
The bomb disposal squad said it was a remote-controlled device and around five kg of explosives, along with shrapnel, were used.
Majority of those killed and injured were members of a pro-government and anti-Taliban peace militia called “the Ferozkhel tribes” who had gathered there for a meeting.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
