Chandigarh : Of Haryana’s total 43 slaughter houses, only two are functional and rest have been closed by the state pollution control board due to non-installation of effluent treatment plants, a state level committee meeting was informed here Friday.
The committee decided that all concerned departments and deputy commissioners in the state be directed to take strict action against the defaulters and ensure that all slaughter houses strictly follow the relevant rules.
Committee member Naresh Kadyan said that illegal slaughtering was being carried out and rules framed for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are not being implemented properly.
“The objective of the committee is to identify slaughter houses located in the state, to recommend modernization of old slaughter houses and to relocate those which are located within or in close proximity of a residential area. It will also give recommendations for improvement of slaughter houses and stoppage of illegal slaughter,” a government spokesman said here.
