He lauded his party’s government for providing with an “honest, transparent and effective” administration and for taking care of the poor and the underprivileged.

Stating that all the flagship programmes of the UPA government were successfully implemented in Meghalaya, Manmohan Singh said that the Congress has always given the highest priority to the interests of the common man in Meghalaya.
Calling Meghalaya one of the fastest-growing states not only in the northeast, but across India, he cited the decade-old ongoing work on the Shillong bypass project, the ongoing four-laning of the Shillong-Guwahati highway, widening and improvement of the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road, Shillong-Silchar and the proposed Jowai bypass and the work on the railway line from Dudhnoi to Mendipathar.
“Ever since the Congress-led UPA Government came to power in 2004, we have strived for inclusive development of our country. We have endeavoured to ensure that all sections of our society and all regions of our country benefit from the rapid economic growth that we have achieved,” he said.
