Around 5,000 cars were taken off the roads by employees of the 27 participating organisations.

“5,000 cars were taken off the roads, helping to save the environment from more than 14 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of the municipality.

He appreciated the enthusiasm of the public for the eco-friendly initiative.

The municipality has hundreds of employees who have quit private cars and started using public transport for daily conveyance, he said.

Some of the departments involved this year were the ministries of environment and water, public works, education, culture, youth and community development, Dubai Police and Dubai Health Authority.
