A court in Medak district has issued a warrant against Akbaruddin Owaisi in a 2005 case in which he and his elder brother, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, and 21 others were booked under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 147 (rioting) and 186 (obstructing public servant).

This seven year old case is related to a protest which MIM has carried out to prevent government officials from demolishing a mosque on Hyderabad-Mumbai highway at Muttangi village near Patancheru town in Medak district.

In 2005 just year after Congress came to power in Andhra Pradesh, with the help of Muslim support, revenue officials demolished three mosques and one shrine to facilitate widening of the high way. When continuous widening led to demolition of fourth mosque at Muthangi village it got stiff opposition from local Muslims and MIM leaders, which led to a day-long rioting and protests. The then Chief Minster, late Rajshekar Reddy ordered inquiry into the matter and at the same time MIM leaders were booked.

Now Medak court has ordered police to produce Akbaruddin before January 18. Medak police which has acquired prisoner transit (PT) warrant is expected to take the custody of MIM legislator in this seven year old case.
Akbaruddin is currently lodged in Adilabad district jail under judicial custody, his police custody ended just day before yesterday.

Another court in Nizamabad has also ordered police to present Akbaruddin before the magistrate before January 19 in relation to his second alleged hate speech case. In this particular case Nizamabad court has also issued a PT warrant for Owaisi’s custody.

Adilabad district court has adjourned proceedings till January 18 on the petition filed by the police for granting of permission to acquire voice samples of Akbaruddin Owaisi. MIM legislator, during his police interrogation, has claimed that his alleged hate speech video clip on Youtube is doctored and during police investigation repudiated that it was his voice in the video clip.

Lawyers of Akbaruddin Owaisi have also filed a bail petition in Adilabad district court which has still not been listed for hearing. MIM Legislative Assembly floor leader has been charged with sedition, criminal conspiracy amounting to murder, and waging war against the nation for his alleged hate speech given at Nirmal, Adilabad district and Nizamabad town.
