Asaduddin Owaisi remanded to judicial custody in a 2005 case

Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP and Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi was sent to judicial custody for 14 days following his appearance in the Medak Court in Sangareddy,100 kms from Hyderabad this afternoon. A non bailable warrant was pending against him in the 2005 case of assaulting the then District Collector. His younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi who is lodged in Adilabad Jail in an other cases since Jan 9 is also an accused in the case of assaulting district officials 8 years ago was produced in the same court on last Thursday on a PT warrant. The same judge sent him too for two weeks remand in judicial custody.

The First Class Magistrate of the Medak court rejected the plea of Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi cancelling the NBW (Non bailable warrant) against him. About three other MIM MLA’s who are accused in this case are on bail now. The court ruling not only shocked Asaduddin Owaisi , his lawyers and followers but also his thousands of constituents who in protest shut down their businesses in the several parts of old city on Monday.The Hyderabad police beefed up the security in the old city and as well in many parts of the new city including Nampally, Asif nagar Mehdipatnam, and Mehdipatnam areas.

Hundreds of MIM supporters gathered at the party head quarters at Darussalam and expressed their anger against the state government for opening up old cases against MIM leaders. MIM with draw the support of Congress government in Andhra Pradesh and pulled out from UPA in November last year on the Charminar temple case. Akbaruddin Owaisi was arrested earlier this month in the hate speech case by the Nirmal police and send him to judicial custody. He is accused of make hate speeches in Nirmal town of Adilabad district on December 22,2012. About half a dozen cases are pending against him in this connection.

Another MIM MLA and party’s General Secretary Ahmed Pasha Qaudri was slapped with three cases yesterday for his alleged insulting remarks against father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Two cases were registered in Kareemnagar district and another in the Chatrinaka police station in Hyderabad. Mr. Qaudri while speaking a meeting in Jagtiyal town of Kareemnagar on last Thursday allegedly questioned the instalation of huge Gandhi statue in the premises of Andhra Pradesh State Assembly which was built by seventh Nizam of Hyderabad.
