The US has ruled out any change in the CIA-controlled drone strikes, claiming it was key to eliminating militants operating from Waziristan region. However, Pakistan insists the drone also kill civilians.

“We repeatedly have raised our concerns on the US drone strikes which are proving counter-productive in the war against terrorism,” Xinhua quoted Khar as telling the senate or the upper house of the country’s bicameral parliament.

She said an opinion was emerging in the entire world, including in the US, which goes against drone attacks.

Khar said Pakistan considers the drone strikes as a violation of its sovereignty.

“We will take up the drone issue with Washington and its ambassador to Pakistan,” she said.

She said Pakistan wants cordial ties with all neighbouring states, including India.
