India signs MoU for Rwanda’s water resources development

New Delhi : India and Rwanda Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in water resources development and management.

An official statement here said the aim of this cooperation is to achieve food security in Rwanda.

The MoU was signed by union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat and Rwanda’s Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Agnes M. Kalibata.

The MoU focuses on planning, design and implementation of marshland and hillside irrigation, watershed management, water governance, and training and capacity building of farmers and personnel in the water sector of the central African nation.

It is also proposed to promote joint ventures between business houses of both countries through mutual facilitation of investment procedures, and working out mechanisms for funding and technical assistance.

A joint commission would be set up to follow up the implementation of the MoU.
