Virtually contradicting the chief minister, state Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee said the government never had plans to organised the event on that day.

“Who told you that the meet was scheduled to be held on Feb 13?” Chatterjee told IANS when asked about the meet.

Industry sources said the Mamata Banerjee goverment decided to defer the meet as its new industrial policy was not yet ready.

“The draft of the new policy is ready. But there has been some internal debate going on regarding some of its clauses. So the chief minister has not yet okayed it,” an industry lobbyist said on condition of anonymity.

Banerjee, in her speech during the second edition of “Bengal Leads” at Haldia earlier this month, had announced that the government would hold another industry meet in Mumbai Feb 13.

“Again on Feb 13 we are organising this meet in Mumbai also. I will invite all of you present here (to Mumbai),” she had said at the inauguration programme.
