The court also ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the lapses of the vigilance department officials who allegedly delayed the probe in the case, said lawyer Rajiv Kumar who filed a public interest litigation in the matter.

Ahead of the 2010 Rajya Sabha poll, an audio CD had surfaced in which alleged legislators could be heard demanding cash for voting. The state vigilance department later lodged a first information report against a few legislators.

“The court expressed displeasure over slow investigation done by the vigilance department, saying it deliberately delayed the probe to help the accused,” the petitioner said.

The Rajya Sabha poll in 2012 was also countermanded. The election commission put off the process after recovery of more than Rs.2 crore from a vehicle of an independent candidate. This case is also being investigated by the CBI.
