The meeting assumed significance in view of the statement by the Congress leader that a decision on Telangana issue would be announced soon.

After meeting leaders from both Telangana and Rayalaseema (Rayalaseema and Andhra) through the day, the incharge of party affairs in the state called on the governor Monday night at the Raj Bhavan.

Before the meeting, Singh told reporters that a decision on Telangana issue is in final stage. He said the decision would be announced as early as possible.

Earlier in the day, the governor said the central government would soon take a decision on the contentious issue.

“Delhi is keen on resolving the issue to total satisfaction of all people. It is trying to work out a consensus,” Narasimhan told reporters in Rajhamundry.

He said Digvijaya Singh would meet leaders of all regions. “He may or may not give a report to the high command,” he added.

Leaders of Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) also called on Singh Monday night and demanded that the central government immediately carve out separate state. They said the movement would continue till a bill is introduced in parliament for formation of Telangana state.
