Bangladesh’s July-May trade deficit shrinks

    Dhaka : Bangladesh’s trade deficit in the first 11 months of 2012-13 (July 2012-June 2013) fiscal slid by 27 percent to about $6.33 billion year on year, central bank data showed Thursday.

    The Bangladesh Bank data showed that the import payment was $30.231 billion, down 0.39 percent, in July-May in the last fiscal while earnings from exports stood at $23.902 billion, up 10.12 percent, Xinhua said.

    The data showed the gap between Bangladesh’s export earnings and import payments in July-May period of 2011-12 fiscal year was $8.644 billion.

    In 2011-12 fiscal (July 2011-June 2012), Bangladesh’s trade deficit widened at a slower pace of about 2 percent year-on-year to $7.93 billion.
