New Delhi: Two men disguised as policemen made off with the jewellery of a 74-year-old woman after telling her that she should take off her gold chain and rings as there were chain-snatchers around, Delhi Police said Saturday.
The incident occurred around 10.30 a.m. in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area. The woman was returning home from a temple.
One of the men approached Hemlata, a resident of Madhu Vihar, telling her that his senior in the force wanted to speak with her.
The second man, sitting on a motorbike disguised as a policeman, told the woman to take off her ornaments and carry them in her bag, as there were chain-snatchers around.
The first man then aided the woman in wrapping her jewellery in a piece of paper. He then placed the paper in which the jewellery was wrapped in the woman’s bag.
“The men then left the place. When the woman checked her bag later, she found that the wrapped jewellery was fake, and that her own were gone,” a police officer said.
A case has been registered.
