Need to sensitise youth on social issues: Himachal governor

    Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh Monday stressed the need to sensitise the youth on social issues and motivate them to serve the poor.

    “Leadership qualities should be inculcated in them so that they grow up as good leaders who can guide society and the nation on the path of progress,” the governor said in an address to the faculty and students of Himachal Pradesh University here.

    Underlining the importance of role of teachers in shaping the career of students, she said: “The teachers are considered to be role models of students. Therefore, they should set good examples and inspire students to become good human beings.”

    Delivering the inaugural address at the university’s three-day foundation day function, she said only good human beings can become good professionals.

    Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi expressed concern over the 100 percent cut-off for admission to Delhi University colleges.

    “This only shows that the younger generation has achieved perfection and there is no scope for future growth.”

    The Rajya Sabha member questioned the non-serious attitude towards education.

    “Education is the foundation of the entire social structure and needs to be taken seriously.”

    Language, he said, is a weapon and “we must know how to use it”.
