New Delhi : The Supreme Court Monday wondered if it was a matter of right for ex-ministers to continue to get the security cover which they had been given when they were ministers.
The apex court bench of Justice Gyan Sudha Misra and Justice Madan B. Lokur asked whether Y-security cover was a matter of right for the former ministers.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Ramveer Upadhyay who, as a minister in Mayawati’s BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, had Y-security cover but was divested of it after the party lost the elections and the Samajwadi Party came to power.
As senior counsel U.U. Lalit sought to impress upon the court the need for restoration of security cover for his client Upadhyay, the court inquired why he was facing threats.
The court added that the petitioner could move the Allahabad High Court for the security cover.
