Mau, UP: A seminar on ‘Ali Sardar Jafri: Ideological and Artistic Aspects’ was held at Community Hall, Nagar Palikla, Mau by Halqa-e-Abad-o-Saqahat yesterday in which the literary works of Ali Sardar Jafri was discussed by learned scholars.
Presiding over the seminar Mr. SMA Kazmi, Former Advocate General of UP said that the poetry of Ali Sardar Jafri is purely political and revolutionary. This was up to the independence of the country. After independence his poetry takes another turn and we find that the revolutionary trend lessened and his focus was on social values and the fight against traditional values. He further said that even poet is not aware about his qualities but such types of programs highlight the qualities of the poet and his contribution to the society.
Dr Shakeel Samdani addressing the seminar
Prof Ali Ahmad Fatmi, former head of Departmentof Urdu, Allahabad University said that Jafri’s poetry is full of revolution and ‘razm’, due to which some critics have not given much importance to Jafri’s poetry. At that time the trend was not of razm but of bazm, not of inquilab but of slow voice (dheeme lehje) due to which there was opposition of Jafri. Jafri was more intellectual than a poet. He also discussed the poetry and intellectualism of Taraqqi Pasand Tahreek.
General Secretary of United Muslim Organization and Professor of Law at the Aligarh Muslim University, Dr Shakeel Samdani discussed in detail about Urdu language, literature and Muslim issues. He said that the language which has produced great poets and scholars like Sardar Jafri is declining day by day in North India.
