Lucknow, June 26 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh will flag off a consignment of relief material, collected by the party’s state unit for Uttarakhand flood victims, here Wednesday, BJP leaders said.
Rajnath Singh, who is arriving here on a two-day visit Wednesday for the first time after taking over as BJP chief earlier this year, will be greeted at the party headquarters. However, his welcome will be a low-key affair in view of the tragedy in Uttarakhand, party’s office-bearers told IANS.
The former UP chief minister and two-time BJP national president will also interact with party officials and workers, they said.
Accompanied by BJP’s state in-charge Amit Shah, the party chief is likely to interact with senior party functionaries and take stock of the preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, an office-bearer of the BJP state unit said.
On Thursday, Rajnath Singh will interact with the media in the Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow and spell out his party’s priorities.
Uttarakhand was ravaged by flash floods and landslides following heavy rains and cloud bursts about 10 days ago. While the state government puts the death toll in the disaster-hit north Indian state at 845, over 7,500 still remain stranded as heavy rains and fog are disrupting relief operations.
