Chandigarh : Legislators of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) were Monday again suspended from the Haryana assembly after they created ruckus inside the house over an adjournment motion seeking removal of their chief Om Prakash Chautala as member.
Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma named all the INLD legislators and the lone Shiromani Akali Dal legislators and suspended them from the house for the day.
The INLD legislators were suspended from the house twice last week also.
The INLD legislators were objecting to the adjournment motion moved by Congress legislator Sampat Singh in which he had sought removal of Chautala as member of the legislative assembly and also as leader of opposition following his conviction in the teachers recruitment scandal.
Chaos prevailed inside the house Monday forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for some time.
INLD legislators gathered near the speaker’s podium and shouted slogans against the adjournment motion. They said that Chautala had appealed against the conviction and that the matter was now sub-judice.
Sampat Singh, who used to be finance minister in Chautala’s government (1999-2005) but is now with the Congress, had moved the adjournment motion under Rule 66 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
In his motion, he said that Chautala had been convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in the teachers’ recruitment scam by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court recently.
Talking to media, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, however, said the issue of whether Chautala should continue to hold the office of leader of opposition after being convicted in the scam should be “left on his own wisdom”.
