Gurgaon : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat Friday demanded special rights for Dalit and tribal women in the bill replacing the ordinance on crimes against women.
The CPI-M will propose this at the all-party meeting on the bill, said Karat, who was here to address a public meeting.
On the lowering the age of consent for sex from 18 to 16 in the proposed Criminal Law Amendment Bill, 2013, she said that there must be enough safeguards.
Karat said that Haryana leads the country in cases of female foeticide, atrocities against women, specially dalits and land fraud.
She alleged that Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his cabinet are working as property dealer for Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra.
Karat also hit out at the United Progressive Alliance government for its “anti-people” policies, saying that such policies had widened the gap between rich and poor.
Talking to reporters later, she said that injustice was done to sacked 546 permanent employees and nearly 2,000 casual workers, fired by the Maruti management after the July 18, 2012 violence.
She said culprits for violence must not be spared but asked why the innocent workers had been targeted.
