He appealed to the residents, business, educational and other institutions and organisations to ensure switching off non-essential lights for one hour March 23.
The chief minister also assured to switch off lights of his official residence, Oakover, from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. to mark the occasion.
A government statement said the lights of three British-era buildings – Oakover, the Town Hall and the neo-Gothic Christ Church, both located on the historic Ridge road, would also be switched off to mark the occasion.
