Delhi residents led in online transactions, says eBay’s census

Kolkata : Delhi residents have made the largest number of online transactions among all e-commerce hubs in India and they most preferred to sell mobile handsets, according to the eBay India Census.

eBay Census 2012, which was published Wednesday, presented interesting online shopping trends by analysing transactions completed across 4,306 e-commerce hubs in the country.

Delhi wa the top e-commerce hub in the country followed by Mumbai, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, said the census, made on the study of all transactions on the firm’s website over 18 months, ending December 31, 2012.

Delhi residents most preferred to sell mobile handsets domestically followed by men’s wrist watches and tool kits, while body care, mobile screen protector and pen drives emerged as the top five items bought online by them domestically.

Guntur of Andhra Pradesh, Choryasi of Gujarat and Karthikappally of Kerala emerged as the top rural hubs across India, the census said.

eBay India has also come out with a survey report specifically for the festive season. This survey was conducted with over 2,500 eBay India users in October 2012. About 92 percent of all mobile commerce survey respondents were male, and about 42 percent of consumers were in the age group of 18-25 years.
