DMK ministers submit resignations to PM

New Delhi : All five DMK ministers in the UPA government Wednesday submitted their resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“All five of us have given our resignations to the prime minister,” one of the ministers told IANS.

The five are cabinet minister M.K. Alagiri (chemicals and fertilizers) and ministers of state S.S. Palanimanickam (finance), D. Napoleon (social justice and empowerment), S. Gandhiselvan (health and family welfare) and S. Jagathrakshakan (commerce and industry).

DMK leader T.R. Baalu Tuesday night submitted the party’s letter withdrawing support to the UPA to President Pranab Mukherjee. The DMK has 18 members in the Lok Sabha and seven in the Rajya Sabha.

The DMK Tuesday quit the government over New Delhi’s failure to take a hard line vis-a-vis Sri Lanka at the UNHRC session in Geneva.
