Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) convenor M. Kodandaram, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislators E. Rajender and J. Krishna Rao were among the leaders arrested by police Thursday for blocking traffic during ‘Sadak Bandh’ called by the JAC on Hyderabad-Bangalore highway.

They were produced before a court at Alampur in Mahabubnagar district which sent them to 14 day judicial custody. It also adjourned to Friday hearing on their bail petition.

The leaders, who were arrested at Alampur Thursday morning, were booked for rioting and unlawful assembly under various sections of Indian Penal Code and other acts.

Rajender, who is leader of TRS in the assembly, alleged that after the arrests in the morning, they were taken to different police stations. He warned that the government would have to pay a price for illegal arrests.

Police said 18 assembly members and four of the council were among 1,177 people arrested during the day in Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts for trying to stop the traffic.

Condemning the arrests of leaders, TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao has called for protest on Friday.
