Emeritus Fellowship to Prof. Jawaid Ali Khan of AMU

Aligarh: Prof. Jawaid Ali Khan of the Department of Physical and Sports Education, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded “Emeritus Fellowship” for a period of two years in recognition of his valuable academic and research contributions. The award has been given for the first time to any professor of physical education in the country by the University Grants’ Commission.

Prof. Khan has contributed to the growth and development of the emerging discipline of physical education and sports sciences in the country. Under his stewardship as Chairman for a prolonged period of twelve years (1997 to 2009), the Department of Physical Education achieved successes both in the area of academics and research.

The Department received the status of UGC-SAP (DRS-I) programme for a period of five years with Prof. Jawaid as its Coordinator to undertake advance researches in designated thrust areas of Sports Psychology and Sports Biomechanics. It was also entrusted with the responsibility to provide scientific support to elite sports persons of the country and help them excel at the international sports arena.

Prof. Khan’s academic contributions and empirical research work including six books and fifty research papers published in international and national journals are widely acclaimed referred.

Prof. Jawaid Ali Khan has visited a number of countries including Germany, Pakistan, UAE, etc. in connection with academic assignments. The award of Emeritus Fellowship to Prof. Jawaid bears hopes and promises for further development of the physical education in the country in general and AMU in particular.
