Punjab hikes compensation to rape victims

    Chandigarh : The Punjab government Thursday announced a hike in the compensation amount to rape and murder victims or their kin in the state.

    The maximum compensation to rape victims would be Rs.300,000 and Rs.400,000 in case of rape with murder. Earlier, the compensation amount was Rs.200,000 and Rs.300,000, respectively, said a government spokesman.

    For victims of acid attack, the compensation would be Rs.300,000 in case of disfigurement of face, the spokesman said.

    Compensation of Rs.50,000 would be given to victims of human trafficking, child abuse and kidnapping, he added.
