Kolkata: Thirteen people, arrested over a shootout following a property dispute in an elite area of the city were Tuesday sent to police custody till Nov 25.
The arrested include a woman principal of a nursery school.
Two people were shot dead and another was critically injured in the eye at a house close to the city police chief’s residence in the upscale Short Street, Kolkata Monday.
While 11 people were arrested by Monday evening, two others were nabbed late at night.
According to police, closed-circuit television camera footage showed the woman – Mamata Agarwal – and one of her security guards opening fire on a group of people who had forcibly entered the house compound in the wee hours Monday.
Two persons died and one was seriously injured in the firing.
Agarwal and two of her security guards were charged with murder and illegal possession of arms, while cases were slapped on 10 others for trespassing at night with intent to cause hurt.
The state government’s counsel opposed bail for all the accused.
The intruders – private security guards, bouncers and a lawyer – owed allegiance to a rival claimant to the property, and entered the premises in a bid to take possession of it.
Agarwal has accused a security agency and some influential people, including a local political leader, of having set their eyes on the property where she runs the school, and the attack was part of the conspiracy to forcibly acquire it.
