Shimla : Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal’s son Wednesday challenged the election affidavits of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his parliamentarian wife Pratibha Singh, accusing them of concealing facts.
“Both have concealed facts in their election affidavits about the income of their son (Vikramaditya Singh), who was shown as dependent,” said Arun Dhumal, who is facing criminal charges in a land purchase case.
Talking to reporters here, he asked the chief minister and his wife why they had not mentioned Vikramaditya’s bank account which received Rs.1.1 crore in Nov 2011.
“Both in their election affidavits in 2012 and 2013 concealed this fact, which is a violation of the election commission’s rules. The commission should take cognizance on the issue and cancel their membership,” said Dhumal.
Virbhadra Singh filed an affidavit on properties and assets during the assembly elections in November 2012, whereas Pratibha Singh filed the affidavit for Mandi parliamentary by-election in June 2013.
He questioned that “since Vikramaditya is dependent and not having any sources of income, then from where he got this huge money”.
“I also demand that both Virbhadra Singh and his wife resign on moral grounds for concealing facts,” he said.
Vikramaditya Singh, 24, is currently contesting the state Indian Youth Congress (IYC) elections.
Last month Arun Dhumal questioned the exponential increase in Virbhadra Singh’s income, mainly from apple orchards, between 2008 and 2011 during which he was union steel minister.
He also asked about the rationale behind the chief minister and his parliamentarian wife Pratibha Singh raising an unsecured loan of Rs.3.90 crore from one Vakamulla Chander Sekhar of New Delhi.
