Guwahati: The regional parties of the Northeast region of India which got together to form a front comprising at least 10 prominent political parties have expressed serious concern at the continued incursion by Chinese authorities in to Arunachal Pradesh besides urging upon the government of India to do the needful so that China do not involve in the act of aggression anymore.
The newly form North East Regional Parties Front (NERPF) headed by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio mentioned in the resolution that by trying to divert the flow of river Brahmaputra in their country China is violating the norms of international border.
“We express serious concern at the action of China to build massive dams in the upper reaches of Brahmaputra and their attempt to divert the flow of the river. Brahmaputra is the lifeline of the northeast region and any attempt to interfere with the natural flow of the river should be considered as an act of aggression,” said NERPF’s one of the convener and Asom Gana Parishad’s working President Atul Bora.
Condemning the reaction of the central government, the front which was formed in Guwahati on Sunday also asked the Indian authority to adopt the strongest possible measures.
Apart from that, the front also called upon the centre to implement the ‘Look East’ Policy with letter and spirit, to rebuild the India portion of the Stillwell Road and set up an Immigration office at border to grow the cross border trade and commerce.
The front will also take out a huge rally in the early parts of the next year to make their presence felt highlighting their agendas in front of the public.
“The destruction of ecological balance in the region with various dams and other activities is also a worry for us and we appeal to the central government in this regard to initiate steps,” Bora said. Scrapping the much talked Arms Force Special Power Act from the region is another important agenda of the front.
