Celebrated educationist Dr Vizarat Rasool Khan passes away due to illness

    Hyderabad: Renowned educationist Dr. Mohammed Vizarat Rasool Khan, chairman of Shadan group of educational institutions breathed his last on Monday afternoon. For past two months he was suffering from prolonged illness and was frequently in and out of hospital.

    In a depiction of his life approach, his last rites were performed in around his educational institutes. His Namaz-e-Janaza was offered on Tuesday afternoon after Zohar prayer at Masjid-e-Shadan near its women’s engineering college and burial took place at Shadan institute of medical sciences at Himayat sagar road.

    For past two days local Urdu newspapers are filled with half page advertisements to hundreds of condolence statements from different individuals, groups and organizations, manifestation of his reach and reverence in the community.

    Vizarat Rasool Khan belonged to an aristocratic family of Deccan, but what earned him heralds in Muslim community is his remarkable service in education field for the community.

    In last three decades late Vizarat Rasool Khan formed nearly 56 educational institutes spread across Deccan; nearly 20,000 students are currently studying in the institutes established by him.

    Mr. Khan was also very active in Muslim political movements; he was MLA of Majlis-e-Itehadul Muslimeen winning twice in 1984 and 1985 from Asifnagar constituency. He was the main force behind building of Deccan engineering college and Medical College run by Daraul Salam educational trust of MIM.

    However, due to internal differences with MIM leadership he parted ways with the party.

    In 1994 when internal rivalry led to factionalism in MIM, Vizarat Rasool Khan tried his luck on MBT ticket from Asifnagar, but constituency was lost to Congress due to vote divide. In 1999 elections again he contested on MBT ticket this time against his own brother Virasat Rasool Khan who contested on MIM ticket, constituency again went to Congress.

    After 1999 defeat he left electoral politics and started concentrating where it mattered the most for him.

    He formed Shadan group of institutions in 1988 on his wife’s name by establishing a B.ED. College. Presently Shadan runs 2 medical colleges, 18 engineering colleges and 5 pharmacy, MBA, MCA, and B.ED. Colleges, and many more junior and degree colleges.

    Vizarat Rasool Khan, through his visionary activism in educational field, earned the title of Sir Syed of South. In a country where medical education remains distant dream for many, in 2011 he started a separate medical college for Muslim girls, Dr. V.R.K. women’s medical college.

    On many occasions he expressed his dream of establishing an autonomous University for Muslims, his vision for a better Muslim community earned him the respect of one and all including his former political rivals.

    At his Namaz-e-Janaza deputy chief minister, state ministers, and many high government officials appeared, every personality from rainbow of Hyderabad politics also turned up to pay their last respects.

    Vizarat Rasool Khan is survived by his Wife and four sons, his brother is a sitting MLA of MIM.
