Australia: PM discusses with Muslim leaders new anti-terror laws

Sidney : Australian Muslims are cautiously awaiting a meeting in Sydney on Monday between their leaders the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott to discuss the new laws being prepared by the government to combat “terrorism” and gain support to encounter the militant groups.

Some Muslim leaders condemned the move and warned of marginalizing the Muslim minority in Australia, according to the Chinese Agency Xinhua.

The new laws propose allocation of 630 million Australian dollars (US$ 587 million) for intelligence and law enforcement agencies to implement new tougher laws in dealing with Australians who fight, support or train with terrorist groups overseas.

The government will also make its blacklist, and the onus would be on the travelers certain terrorist hotbeds to prove that they are going there for humanitarian or family reasons and not for fighting.
