Shooter conversion case to be referred to CBI: Hemant Soren

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Hemant Soren Friday night announced that national shooter Tara Shahdeo’s conversion case will be referred to CBI for probe.

“Tara Shahdeo met me and we assured all possible help to her. We agree to her demand regarding CBI probe. We will refer the case to CBI,” he said at a press conference here.

Soren, however, declined to speak about the names of two ministers figuring in the case.

Shahdeo has alleged that two ministers — Haji Hussain Ansari and Suresh Paswan — have links with her husband Ranjeet Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain.

In her police complaint, she said she got married in July this year to Ranjeet Kohli. However, during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, when people invited her husband for iftar, she came to know her husband’s name was Rakibul Hussain after it was written on the invitation cards.

She alleged that Rakibul and 20 other people forced her to change her religion. When she refused, she was allegedly beaten up and a dog was made to bite her.

She was kept under close vigil but when Rakibul went to New Delhi Aug 19, she sent a message to her family members and was rescued.

A Ranchi court meanwhile granted three days’ police remand of Rakibul following a request of the city police.

Rakibul was arrested Tuesday from New Delhi. A Ranchi court sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody Thursday.

In another development, the Jharkhand High Court Thursday suspended the court’s vigilance register Mustaq Ahmad.

This follows Shahdeo’s allegation that Ahmad had solemnised her nikah with Rakibul after marriage was solemnised as per Hindu ritual.

“If needed, we will interrogate Mustaq Ahmad. We will interrogate people who were present at the nikah of Shahdeo. We have assured her that justice will be done and she does not need to fear regarding connections of Ranjeet alias Rakibul,” Ranchi SSP Pabhat Kumar told reporters Friday.
