Chhattisgarh to notch over 7 percent growth in 2013-14

    Raipur: The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Chhattisgarh is likely to grow at 7.05 percent during the 2013-14 fiscal over the previous year, an economic survey of the mineral-rich state said Friday.

    As per advance estimates, the “GSDP at constant price was expected to see growth in agriculture sector (agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing), industry sector (secondary sector and mining sector) and service sector at 2.62 percent, 6.07 percent and 10.18 percent, respectively in 2013-14 over the previous year,” said the survey, tabled by Chief Minister Raman Singh in the state assembly amid desk-thumping by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members.

    As per first revised estimates (Quick Estimates) for the year 2012-13 at constant price, the GSDP registered a growth of 7.56 percent as against the All India GDP figure during the same period that was just 4.47 percent.

    Chhattisgarh’s agriculture sector in 2012-13 grew at 8.89 percent, which is extremely high compared to the all India percentage of a paltry 1.41 percent.

    As per the state’s economic survey, the industry sector in the state witnessed a growth of 5.38 percent in 2012-13 against the all India growth rate of 0.96 percent.

    The service sector registered an impressive growth figure of 9.09 percent as against the all India figure of seven percent.
