New Delhi: The Centre for North East Studies & Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize the Fifth Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew Annual Lecture – 2014 on ‘Swaminomics: From Hero to Zero—The Rise and Fall of the Indian Economy’.
The Lecture shall be delivered by Swaminathan SA Aiyer, former Editor, Economic Times and a Fellow at the CATO Institute, Washington, USA. Aiyer has been writing columns in Times of India titled “Swaminomics.”
Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia shall deliver Opening Remarks in the programme. Dr. Jaimini Bhagwati, former Higher Commissioner to the United Kingdom will Chair the session.
The programme is scheduled to be held on February 24, 2014 at 3.30 PM in Edward Said Hall, adjacent to the Vice Chancellor’s Office of the University.
The Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew Annual Lecture is one of the major highlights of the University’s Academic calendar. The last year’s Lecture, 2013 was delivered by Dr Surin Pitsuwan, former Secretary-General, ASEAN and former Foreign Minister of Thailand on ‘Building a New Asia: India, China and ASEAN’. Mr Jaswant Singh, Member of Parliament (Darjeeling) Lok Sabha and former External Affairs Minister of India delivered the Third Annual Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew Lecture, 2012 on ‘Engaging the World: India and Challenges of Our Times’. Prof Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of the Mahatma, Centre for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA on ‘Enhancing Security: Lessons from History and Geography’ and Mr MJ Akbar, Editor and author of ‘Indian Muslims: Crisis, Confrontation and Challenges’ for the Second (2011) and First (2010) respectively.
