Davos : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday hit out at main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), terming its economic policy “retrograde” and “blood-eyed”.
“It (BJP) has got policies that would destroy the very idea of India. Their’s a blood-eyed economic model,” Chidambaram said at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting here.
Criticising the BJP for its opposition to the foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail and public distribution system reforms, Chidambaram said the main opposition party’s economic policy is “retrograde.”
He pointed out that the BJP has been opposing the overseas investments in multi-brand retail sector on the premise that it would result in job losses, while the truth is just the opposite.
The finance minister also hit out at the BJP for its opposition to the Public Distribution System (PDS) reforms and disinvestment programmes.
“Why is that BJP and its mascot are opposing these reforms,” the finance minister asked.
