Punjab cabinet to be expanded Tuesday

Chandigarh : The Punjab council of ministers will be expanded Tuesday, a spokesman of the Chief Minister’s Office said here Sunday.

Three new ministers will be sworn in. At present, the council of ministers, headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, has a strength of 15.

The Badal government came into office in March 2012 in its present term. Earlier, Badal was chief minister 2007-2012.

The Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have an alliance government in the state.

The three ministerial slots fell vacant following resignations by the incumbents. Two posts have not been filled for almost two years while one vacancy was created last month.
