US Navy adds destroyer for Malaysian jetliner’s search

Washington: The US Navy said Monday it has dispatched one more Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to join the multinational search for a missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

The USS Kidd, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, will join the USS Pinckney in the search efforts of the missing Beijing-bound Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Xinhua reported.

The USS Kidd brings its two MH-60R Seahawk helicopters designed for search and rescue, as well as anti-submarine warfare, anti- surface warfare, surveillance, communications relay, naval gunfire support and logistics support, the Navy said.

The Boeing 777 with 239 people aboard lost contact with the ground and disappeared early Saturday when it was flying to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
