Terrorists behind railway station attack, says China

Beijing : Terrorist group East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) was behind the attack that killed three people and injured 79 others at a railway station in China May 1, officials said Sunday.

The attack in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, was planned by ETIM member Ismail Yusup outside China and May 22, Xinhua reported citing publicity department.

Yusup ordered his 10 partners to prepare the strike.

The attack occurred in the area between the railway station exit and a bus stop.

The members from the terrorist group set off explosives and slashed people with knives at the exit of the South Railway Station.

Two members of the group, Saderdin Sawut and Memetabudula Ete, were killed in the explosion, and the eight others were caught by police.

In a similar incident March 1, knife-wielding assailants killed 29 civilians and injured 143 at a railway station in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming.
