Siliguri : With the opposition stepping up the heat on Trinamool Congress over the Saradha scam, party parliamentarian Abhishek Banerjee Wednesday hit out at the BJP and claimed many of its leaders’ wealth had multiplied in a short time.
Addressing a rally here in north Bengal, Abhishek – the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee – claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party was maligning the Trinamool government in the state.
“The wealth of BJP leaders has multiplied several times in just three months. While some leaders’ wealth has gone past Rs.90 crore from Rs.30 crore, others’ wealth has increased similarly,” he said.
“Like Saradha chief Sudipta Sen is in jail for duping poor people, why can’t the BJP leaders who have duped people’s trust be given the same treatment?” asked Abhishek, the Lok Sabha member from Diamond Harbour.
Abhishek also accused the central government of trying to derail the developmental agenda of the Trinamool government by using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which are probing the Saradha scam.
“Having failed to influence Mamata Banerjee with the ED, CBI etc., the BJP is running a malicious campaign to malign her,” he said.
