Turkey hosts 1.37 mn Syrian refugees

Ankara : The number of Syrian refugees in Turkey has exceeded 1.37 million, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) Tuesday.

As of August, some 1.37 million Syrian refugees have arrived in Turkey since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, Xinhua reported citing the statement.

Among them, 220,000 people were accommodated in 24 refugee camps set up in 10 provinces, AFAD said.

About 30,000 Syrian babies have been born in Turkey, AFAD added.

The AFAD said that all Syrian refugees in the camps have been provided with shelter, food and services of healthcare, security, social activities, education, worship, translation, banking and communication.

By the end of August, the UN estimated that a total of over six million people have been displaced in Syria.
