Hyderabad: Families of the five under trial Muslim youths killed in the ‘encounter’ by Telangana police plan to file a murder complaint against its officers.
The families of the deceased are planning to visit Aler police station in Nalgonda district to file a complaint in whose local jurisdiction the killings occurred in the escort police van packed with 17 police personnel.
The move by the family members has come after Superintendent of Police of Nalgonda filed a complaint of attempt to murder and rioting against the five deceased youths killed in the encounter. Aler police station registered the complaint and FIR was lodged booking all the five deceased under section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 146 (rioting of unlawful assembly).
On April 7, five under trials, accused in terror cases namely Mohammed Viqaruddin, Amjed Ali, Mohammed Haneef, Riyaz Khan and Izhar Khan were shot dead while they were being shifted from Warangal prison to Hyderabad Criminal court for a trial. Police claimed to have opened fire when the accused tried to snatch a weapon from a policeman in the running vehicle between Aler and Jangaon, about 80 kms from Hyderabad in an area bordering Warangal and Nalgonda districts. However, their families, lawyers and civil rights activists find the police version questionable and have termed it as a ‘revenge’ and ‘retaliation’ against the death of cops in another encounter few days back.
The police case was filed on April 7 but the families were intimated about it the next day when they received the bodies of the youth killed.
Advocate Ghulam Rabbani, who is close to the families of the deceased told TCN that some of the family members have received intimation from the Aler PS about booking of cases against their dead wards. “Family members of the encounter victims felt hurt by the action of the police and saw it as rubbing salt on their wounds. Thus it is decided that we will give tit-for-tat reply by filing a murder complaint against police officers involve in this crime.”
Family members are planning to give the names of escort police officers and top district police officers to be booked in the murder case under sec 302 and criminal conspiracy under section 120B of IPC. “The families are holding a meeting Friday evening and most probably go to Aler on Saturday,” he said.
Parents of the deceased youths are planning to utilize every legal avenue at their disposal including filing a writ in the high court for a CBI inquiry.
