Fans of Qawwali veteran Ustad Meraj Ahmad Nizami raising funds for his hospital bill

New Delhi: New Delhi: Head of the Delhi Gharana of Qawwals, Ustad Meraj Ahmad Nizami is recovering in Aaashlok Hospital after his surgery. He slipped in Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin and fractured his hip bone. A renowned Qawwal he never saved enough money and now finding it difficult to pay his hospital bill.

Rana Safvi, moderator of #shair on Twitter , visited him today and informed TwoCircles.net that his hospital bill is 1.7 lakh rupees and his fans are trying to raise funds to pay off that bill. A fan of Nizami, Sanjeev Singh is coordinating the fund raising for the hospital bill. He can be contacted on his facebook.

“He is in ICU in Aashlok Hospital in Safdarjung Enclave A Block till tomorrow night. People can visit him there and pay their contribution to him directly.”

Ustad Meraj Ahmed Nizami is part of the original Qawwali singers families known as Qawwal Bacche taught originally by Amir Khusro. They are considered as Delhi Gharana of Qawwals. Nizamis is the most-senior among the descendants of Tan Ras Khan Qawwal. Qawwal Bachhe have been singing Qawwalis for the last eight centuries.
