By TCN News,

Patna: A civil society team that recently visited village Azizpur in the Muzaffarpur district which saw communal rioting on January 18, has warned that the Bihar Police is “still maintaining an irresponsible attitude towards riots, adding that it was because of their lax attitude that the tension had erupted in at the beginning of this year.

“Had they been vigilant, all of this would not have happened,” said Kashif Yunus Samaj Bachao Andolan.

The people were afraid of the police after the incident, and were hesitant in registering FIRs. It was after the intervention from civil society groups that over two weeks later around 22 FIRs were registered.

Samaj Bachao Andolan that have been working with the victims claimed that none of the cases have been followed up diligently.

Two people were killed and two other were burnt alive during the communal tension. The arrests which have been made are all for the cases of theft and burglary.

“The Supervision Report is biased in the favour of Makhiaram Parvesh Saini, who is the main accused,” Kashif Yunus claimed, demanding an immediate transfer of the SP of Muzaffarpur, and his replacement with an IPS officer with a clean image.
