15 Muslim organisations will jointly campaign for the development of the community in WB before Assembly elections

Kolkata: 15 Muslim organisations from the across the state held a meeting in hotel in Kolkata on Sunday, August 16 and have decided to jointly work for the welfare and development of the Muslim minority of West Bengal. The TMC run state will go into polls next year.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Qari Fazlur Rahman, Imam-E Idayen of the city’s biggest congregation at Red Road and State president of All India Milli Council. The programme was convened by All India Minority Youth Federation Secretary Muhammad Kamruzzaman.

Leaders of the 15 Muslim organisations voiced their concerns concerning the welfare of the community, including how Muslims in the state got opportunities of the government facilities, how to increasing the education and financial condition, etc.

Fazlur Rahman appealed that Muslims belonging to different sects, should ignore their personal belief for the sake of larger socio-economic empowerment of the community and work together to overcome several hurdles.

The organisers have informed that the August 16 meeting was a preparatory meeting for the September 19 programme to be held in the state capital aimed at influencing public opinion before the next year’s Assembly election in the state.

These Muslim leaders made it clear that they will not be fooled anymore from mere words of promises of different political parties, adding that the State Government led by Chief Minister Mamata Baernjee must deliver on the poll promises, made to the minority communities four years back.

Convenor of the meeting Muhammad Kamruzzaman highlighted the discrimination by certain officials in the state administration due to which Muslims from the state have not been able to fully benefit from the reservation meant for OBC in the state that includes most of the Bengali speaking Muslim communities from the state. He reminded that most of the Universities in the state have not implemented the OBC reservation so far.

The representatives of these organisations plan to also talk to state Jamiat Ulama leader Maulana Siddiqullah Chowdhury and other Muslim organisations for a joint struggle.

Among others, All India Milli Council state Secretary Sahud Alam, State Secretary of All india Sunnatul Jamat Syed Tafhimul Islam, President of Jamiatul Ayemma Al Ulema Mufti Emadullah, Secretary of Minority Coordination Committee Maulana Anwar Hossan Qasmi, Sabir Ali Molla of Jamiat e Ahle Hadith, Khalil Mallick and Babar Hossain of MYF were also present in this meeting.
