This information is revealed through an RTI application that was filed by M A Khalid, general secretary for Maharashtra chapter of All-India Milli Council. He had sought information from the state minority development department about the status of several schemes being run for welfare of the minorities.

Replying to the question about funds allocation and its spending for minority rural area development scheme, the department said that, out of Rs 17.50 crore earmarked for the scheme in 2015-16, nothing has been spent till date.

“This fund was meant for improving infrastructure in minority-dominated villages and by not spending a single rupee, the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government of the state, has shown how negligent they are towards minorities,” M A Khalid said.

At centre also, Ministry of Minority Affairs is yet to utilize 70.16% of Budget Estimates (BE) Rs 3,712.78 crore for the current year.

“The government is proving that it is ‘anti-Muslim’. This is the reality of Modi’s tall slogan of ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’. First it allocates very less fund for welfare of minorities and they don’t even utilize it. BJP was never serious towards Muslims and it wants Muslims to remain under developed”, alleged Azhar Tamboli, general secretary of Maharashtra Action Committee.
