His India Against Corruption colleague and former police officer Kiran Bedi, the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, lost the safe Krishna Nagar seat to a little known lawyer S.K. Bagga by a narrow margin of 2,277 votes.

Also in the list of losers was Congress leader Ajay Maken, who was the party’s face in the election.

He finished third in his Sadar Bazar constituency with 16,331 votes, behind winner Som Dutt of the AAP (67,507 votes) and Parveen Kumar Jain of the BJP (33,192 votes).

Bedi made a public apology to the BJP for letting the party down, but said it was not her loss and the party needs to introspect about the reason behind the defeat.

The BJP came down to a mere three seats in the assembly from the over 30 it had won in the 2013 election.

Maken resigned as Congress general secretary after the party failed to win a single seat in the city it had ruled for 15 years.

Sandeep Kumar of the AAP won with the biggest margin. He trounced Prabhu Dayal of the BJP by 64,439 votes in Sultanpur Majra constituency in northwest Delhi.
