Jamia Millia Islamia celebrates 66th Republic Day with traditional fervor

New Delhi: Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia unfurled the tri-colour in the school premises to mark the 66th Republic Day function here on Monday.

Addressing the students, teachers and staff, Professor Ahmad applauded the efforts of the students for assembling in large numbers to celebrate the day despite intermittent rains.

The vice chancellor drew attention of the audience to the visit of President Barack Obama to India on the Republic Day that signified India’s importance in the comity of nations. “India has a bigger role to play in the world for the establishment of peace and prosperity. India’s prosperity will signal the prosperity of all sections of the society within the country,” a release from Jamia’s media coordinator said quoting the vice chancellor.

Talking about the efforts initiated to bring Jamia schools in the best league, the vice chancellor said an exercise is underway to set up an Incubation Cell to promote creativity and innovation amongst students. He said that students should be encouraged to take their curiosity forward to experiment and innovate for things that could be put to use of humankind.

Professor Ahmad also referred to Jamia’s maiden endeavour to seek assessment and accreditation by the NAAC. He said that the NAAC Peer Team’s visit to Jamia is due from February 18-21. He felt that it was incumbent upon the institution to demonstrate that Jamia was a serious academic institution.

Dr Muzaffar Hassan, Principal, Jamia Senior Secondary School, proposed a vote of thanks. The function was attended by the Registrar, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and Directors of Centres besides the teachers, students and staff in large numbers despite inclement weather. There were cultural presentations by students from Jamia Senior Secondary School and Nursery School, the release added.
