Ranchi: Curfew continued for the third day in Jamshedpur, the hometown of Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das where communal clashes erupted on Monday, officials said.
The curfew was relaxed for three-to-five hours in parts of Jamshedpur. But officials said curfew would be in force till Friday.
The district administration has directed schools and colleges to shut. No untoward incident was reported in the city on Thursday.
Curfew was imposed on Tuesday night after the situation in Jamshedpur worsened.
The trouble began on Monday evening after the alleged harassment of a girl by boys of another community near the Gandhi Maidan.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and some other groups called a shutdown on Tuesday. Motorbikes and other vehicles were set on fire and clashes spread in the city.
The situation came under control after additional security forces were sent to Jamshedpur on Tuesday.
